It is quite common to have a head cold with runny nose, headache, sore throat, non-productive cough – particularly through winter. In most cases, it is very safe to proceed with surgery and anaesthesia. Concerning features are a fever >38 degrees Celsius, a thick productive or green cough, very poor fluid intake, or wheeze and shortness of breath.
